meeting. November 26, 27. —Forbur.v Park meeting.

With the near approach of the Oamaru Trotting Club’s spring meeting, the local track is being freely used. Several promising young horses are in work, while the number of handicap horses in commission, compares favourably with this time last season. The Australian-bred two-year-old, Court Jester, by Comedy King from Kunmgada, owned by J. M’Combe at Riccarton, was gelded this week. He and the remaining Australian youngsters in M‘Combe’s stable have been turned out and will not be called upon to race until later in their careers. Several Canterbury trainers contemplate taking teams north tor the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting next month. The trip will provide opportunities for winning good stakes, whch may be easier to secure than most of the races at Addington in November. when competition will be particularly dam of Rapine, has produced a filly foal to Paladin, the first since Rapine was born in 1919. Sweet Charity (imp.) also from the Kinloch Stud, has a filly foal by Martian, and Cherub, by Martian, Horn Intelligence, slipped a colt foal to Paladin. Tom Bracken showed some pace at Dan nevirke. Ho is owned by Dwan Brothey, and is by Arrowsmith from Sweet Tipperary. Sweet Tipperary was not a great turf success, and she did not redeem her early promise. She was from Golden Ball, the dam of Chrvsostom, another who did not live up to his early promise in New Zealand, but who went to Australia and made a great success of the hurdling branch of the business. The Wellington owner, Mr W. H. Ballinger frequently sends a team of horses to compete at the spring circuit in the South Wand, and he will be represented this season by Royal Game, Waetoa. and Axle. They raced at Riccarton on Saturday and will remain for the Geraldine, Kurow, Oamaru, and Dunedin fixtures. According to a Gisborne writer, the Autumn— Slipstitch colt Threadneedle experienced bad luck lately, a fall on the plough putting his preparation back. Conseauently he was not taken to the Avondale meeting, though he is already on the improve again. He will acotnpany Ngawati and Autoranc on the southern tour, however. The other pair will race at Napier, Wellington, and Riccarton and if Threadneedle continues to go on all right he will be given an opportunity of further distinguishing himself on the same trip. Automne and Ngawati are both looking bright and are expected to do themselves credit'in spring engagements. The fire which destroyed the stand at the Addington trotting course this week came at a most inopportune time, and it v ill cause serious inconvenience at the next race meeting to be held there. This is the November meeting of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, the most important fixture of the season, which always attracts very large crowds, fully taxing th stand accommodation. - The Metropolitan Trotting Club is a tenant at Addington, the course being now held under lease by the Canterbury Park Trotting Club. The question of erection additional stand accommodation will doubtless be the subject of joint discussion. Nothing has yat been done in that direction, however. The only action taken so far is that arrangements have been made for the immediate removal of the debris, and it has not even been decided to erect a new stand on the site of the one was burned down. It is thought possible that the whole question will remain in abeyance until after the November meetcommenting on his recent trip to Australia. “Sir Lancelot,” of the New Zealand Sportsman, has something interesting to sav of R. J. Mason’s two-year-old pupils, Agrion and Bulalic, who were recently reported to be suffering from colds, the trouble being feared as likely to put them out of court for the big youngster double, Breeders Plate (colts) and Gimcrack Stakes (fillies), secured*>y their stablemates, Nincompoop and Chignon respectively, some time ago: Mr G, B. Greenwood’s colt has unfortunately, been unable to throw off the cold that has affected him since he has been at Randwick. The writer saw him in his box the day before he left. His trainer (Mr Mason) was then of opinion that if he did not improve in a few days he would ease him up and not run him at the big meeting. Both the colt and the filly have done a lot of useful work, and are ready to race at any time. The filly has only had a slight colt, and it may not affect her. She has the pace, and it is only a matter whether she will be able to see out the five furlongs. Nothing has done better than the full brother to Thespian. H. J. Jefferd’s pair of PaperMoneys have both settled down, and it would not be surprising if either of them ran prominently.”
