Matthew Babbage, a native of Czechoslovakia, a fruiterer by trade, was charged with stealing a truck valued at £3 from Laery and Co. This firm two years ago brought six trucks, two of which were stolen last month. A truck was noticed with red paint showing under white. It was traced to Babbage, and the firm claimed it as theirs. The defendant denied the charge, saying he had bought the truck from another firm, and that the charge waa only brought out of revenge, because he had sued Laery and Co., and got a verdict.
