THE ASHBURTON MEETING.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 24. The weather has been very hot to-day, and there is every prospect of ideal conditions for the Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting, which will be held at Riccarton to-morrow. Ihe course is in great order, and it should provide fast going, while’with big fields for most of the events there should be some keen racing, which will have an important bearing on meetings further ahead. Form ’is not easy to sum up at this period when the competitors include a number of horses which nave been racing through the winter and whose condition may enable them to beat better performers while the latter are not quite ready. The track work this morning was very uninteresting. A few horses did short sprints, but most of them wore restricted to easy tasks. Mr R C. Keeper has arrived from Orari with Ronaki and the two-year-old by Solferino from Angelo. They look in good racing trim. The Wellington owner, Mr W. H. Ballinger, frequently sends a team of horses to compelc at the spring circuit in the South Island, and he will he represented this season by Royal Hump, Waetca, and Axle. They arrived from the north this morning, and, alter racing at Riccarton to-morrow, they will remain for the Geraldine, Kurow, Oamani, and Dunedin fixtures. Mr F. R. Peirce's Paper Money mare, Watcrlow, arrived from Wellington this morning. She Iras gone into J. Boyd’s stable at Riccarton to Ire trained for the southern spring fixtures, commencing wijh the Ashburton meeting to le held at Riccarfotr to morrow.
