OLD IDENTITIES.

POET CHALMERS ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Port Chalmers Old Identities’ Association was held in the Town Hall, Port Chalmers, last night. There was a good attendance, and Mr W. Jones occupied the chair. The Ladies’ Committee (Mrs Gi Thomson, Mrs T. Basire, Mrs W. Love, and Miss Pickard) attended to the supper arrangements, The Chairman said that before taking the ordinary business he wished to refer to the passing of three members of the association. The late Mr J. Mill was the first president of the association, and held that position for three terms. The late Mrs M. Mathewson and the late Mrs R. Cashman were also old members of the association. \ motion of sympathy with their relatives was. carried in silence. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the President congratulated the members on the sound financial position. The picnic last season had not been quite so successful as these functions had been in previous years, but it vas hoped this year’s gathering would show an improvement. Regret was expressed that the membership was i >t as large as it should be, and it was hoped that increased interest would be shown in the association by those e’gible to join. Mr Jones said that before vacating the chair for the incoming president he had to perform the very pleasant task of presenting a fountain pen to their painstaking a. A energetic secretary (Mr E. ivnewstubb), as a token of the respect in which he was held by the members.—Applause. Mr Kncnstubb thanked the members for their present, and modestly referred to tu irk he had don' tor the association. , The following office-bearers were elected i r the coming yean—Mr T. J. Thomson, E resident; Messrs A. Johnson, J. i arquarson, H. Whyte, vice-presidents; Mr E. Knewstubb, secretary; Mr A. Sutherland, treasurer; Mrs G. Thomson, Mrs i. Basire, Mrs W. Love Miss J. Pickard, Messrs G. Groves, H. Whyte, A. Johnson, F. Voisey, A. Sutherland., J. Pickard, J. Harland. General Committee. Mr Thompson said he esteemed it a very great honour indeed to be. elected president of an organisation which had for its object the perpetuation of the memory of the pioneer settlors. A programme of musical items aasisted in the enjoyment of a pleasant evening.
