A NEW ALLOY

ELECTROLYTIC BERYLLIUM. ADAPTED TO AEROPLANE CON. STRUCTION. (Praia Association—By Telegraph—Copy right,) LONDON, July 16. {Received July 17, at 5.5 p.m.) Details are announced of the British discovery of electrolytic beryllium which is likely to revolutionise aeroplane construction by permitting welding instead of riveting. It is derived from an alloy of beryl and quartz. It is almost as light as paper and is as strong as iron, yet elastic and durable. Dr Rosenhain’s research brought beryllium within 2 per cent, of perfection. It is far in advance of any German discovery.—A. and N.Z. Cable
