TAXATION OF BETTING
MR CHURCHILL’S BILL. REDUCTION OR DUTY PAYABLE (Press Association—By Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, July 15. : (Received July 16, at 10 p.m.) In the House of Commons, Mr Churchill introduced emendations to the Betting Bill reducing the duty on credit betting to 3i per cent, and on racecourse betting to 2 per cent, instead of the proposed all round 5 per cent. Mr Churchill explained that the turnover of betting -was larger than was previously anticipated. The new proposals would still yield £6,000,000 in revenue. The amendments were agreed to End the report stage of the Budget debate was concluded.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
