NURSES' MEMORIAL FUND.

ANNUAL REPORT. The following are extracts from the report which is to bo submitted to the ninth general meeting of the Now Zealand Nurses’ Memorial Fund, to be held at the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon next; The record of tho fund during tho year ended March 31 last has been uneventful, but progress has been steady and satisfactory, and the usefulness of the fund unabated. An average of 12 annuitants wore relieved during l?ie year. Their grateful acknowledgment bear ample witness to the need for the fund and to the esteem in which it is held by the nursing profession. No annuitants have died during the last 12 months. One no longer needs help, and two have been added to the roll, which now stands at 12. The addition to Rule 22, made at the last annual general meeting, came into force during March of this year. All those receiving relief from the fund sent in medical certificates, perusal of which shows conclusively that in each case the relief was wisely granted and sorelv needed. Owing to some unexpected windfalls the committee has been able to add to the capital of the fund, which now stands at the sum of £20,580, invested in New Zealand Government securities bearing interest at the' average rate of 5J per cent. There la also a balance of -£3BB to credit at the Bank of Australasia. The principal contributions during the year were £l5O from the Wellington branch received through our vice-president. Dr Wm. Younnto whose efforts the fund has always been greatly indebted, and a legacy of £l3l from the estate of a late annuitant. Tho Otaeo branch of the Trained Nurses’ Association, the Southland Trained Nurses’ Association, and the Nelson Nursing Club have also given valuable help The report also states that the New Zealand Trained Nurses’ Association is asking all nurses to subscribe 2s 6d annually. This appeal is already being answered, and will add considerably to tho annual income, for it means that for ever- 600 nurses subscribing the fund will benefit by £75. Handsome sums have also come in from the Canterbury branch of the Trained Nurses’ Association and the iv omen’s Section of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. The following members of the Central Committee will retire in rotation, and are eligible for re-election;—Miss Lancaster, Mr James Begg, Dr L. S. Manning. Dr James Young.
