Remarkable 0* put up under Official Supervision-Bonnets Performance and Radiators Sealed! In each car was an observer appointed by the Otago Motor Club. Dunedin 483 to Christchurch and return miles in less than 22 hours. That this performance was put up by seven Austins without trade drivers at the wheels speaks volumes for Austin efficiency. The very fact that no seals were broken shows the faith which the owners had in their Cars, as it was impossible to check the oil level without lifting the bonnets. Uniform performance is a salient feature with Austins—the time of arrival in a township miles ahead could be calculated to a minute. Over many stretches the Cars were driven at 50 miles an hour mile after mile. Even after such runs, long hills included, the radiators were barely warm. All seals were intact —each car performed its gruelling task without additional water or oil! —and no car had any mechanical attention whatever. Private owners step into their Cars and take on a trip which with any Car of the same rating, other than an Austin, would demand special tuning and days of preparation; they look on the trip as a day’s outing rather than a wonderful performance hitherto unachieved. That it was an achievement could ho judged from the looks of consternation on the faces of other drivers as the convoy passed. On returning to Dunedin three of the Cars tour the town to "clock" 500 miles—do it under the 24 hours, demonstrating Austin's "roadibility" and British supremacy. One Car mistook the road at Hampden Creek—charged into seven feet of water at 35 miles an hour. So great was the impact that the lamp brackets were bent back and the wing* slightly flattened! Despite the fact that the radiator appeared to go right under the water, the engine was started without breaking the seals, and the Car proceeded as far as Oamaru, where it was discovered that one of the rear springs was broken. This incident goes to show how well the vital parts of Austin are protected—magneto and carburetter were not affected in any way. Drive an Austin in all weather—under all conditions—and the engine will not miss a beat!/ And at tbe end of the trip one passenger asked himself: “Is top-gear performance everything? The next Car I buy I’m asking of what will it bo capable when it starts to clock the second 20,000 miles? Sole Agents for Otago: nr 017170 DDAQ Castle Street, UJt, DEXIt dKUj. DUNEDIN
