Tho Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., arrived in Dunedin from Wellington last night. Mrs Nicholson has been appointed matron of Pleasant Valley Sanatorium in place of Miss Noil, who has resigned from the post. 'it R. C. Blunt, tho Canterbury and N' Zealand representative cricketer, who will take up his residence in Dunedin, arrived from Christchurch by the express last night. Mr Norman Cameron, of Dunedin, son of the lato Dr Andrew Cameron, has been accepted for service with tho New Zealand branch of the Sudan United Mission in tho Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, some hundreds of miles to the south-west of Khartoum. Mr Cameron has considerable teaching experience and medical knowledge that is certain to be of great value to him in this field of work. Ho will probably be sailing for Egypt by the Chilral, which is duo to loavo Melbourne on October 12. Mr P. W. Eapley, formerly general manager for New Zealand of the Australian Provincial Assurance Society, has been appointed to the position of managing director of that society. Mr Itapiey’s first position was with the Post and Telegraph Department in Wellington, and later ho joined other Government departments. He served with tho Equitable Assurance Society of the United States as district manager for Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay, and when that society ceased operations in New Zealand he became a district manager for the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia. lu 1018 he Joined the Australian Provincial Assurance Association as general manager for tho South Island. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch reports that Mr P. Selig and his daughter, Mrs Oscar Josephon, will leave Auckland on August 3 by the Aorangi for Vancouver, whence they will Journey to New York. 'Mr Selig has accepted nn invitation from Dr Walter Williams, president of the World’s Press Congress, to join the delegation leaving New York by the Carmania for Havre, thence to Geneva, where the congress sessions will be held from September 14 to September 18. Afterwards the party will tour the Continent, .and will then return to London for n week of official ceremonies and entertainment in connection with the congress.
