The Breeze, which arrived here yesterday morning fiom Wanganui, via ports, is timed to sail this evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington. Picton, and Wanganui. According to the latest advice the Jugoslav steamer Vidovdan, en route from Iquique and Concention, left Coronel, Chile, on May 15 for Auckland. A wireless message received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company from the captain of the Arawa states that the vessel is expected to arrive at Wellington on Friday afternoon from London and Southampton. MAHANA FROM LIVERPOOL. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company advises that the steamer Mahana is due at Port Chalmers on June 10 from Liverpool, via northern ports to discharge the remainder of her Home cargo and load Dominion products for London. Cable news has been received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company that the Mamari arrived at London on the evening of Sunday, May 23, from Auckland. The vessel left Auckland on April 11. KAIKOURA HOMEWARD BOUND. A cable message to the New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Kaikoura arrived at Montevideo on May 23 from Wellington and sailed on May 24 for London. The vessel left Wellington on April 30. BARON MURRAY CLEARS PANAMA, The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised thatf the Baron Murray left Panama on May 17 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, en route from St. John and Newport News. The vessel is due at Auckland about June 4. CARGO FROM EASTERN CANADA. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer Wirral left Sydney (Cape Breton) on May 22 for Cornerbrook and Montreal to continue loading for New Bealand. MOTOR SHIP'S FAST PASSAGE. The motor ship Touraine, of the Nov-wegian-Australia Line, has just completed a fast passage. The vessel, which left Sydney on April 1, and Adelaide on April 10, arrived at Dunkirk on the 15th inst. —35 days from Adelaide. ■ PORT NAPIER h ROM LONDON. From London, via Colon, Panama, . Suva, and Auckland, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Napier entered the Heads early on Saturday morning. She was berthed at Port Chalmers, where the Dunedin portion of her Home eargo will he discharged. .The Port Napier sailed from London on March 27, and reached Colon on April 14. Transit through the Panama Canal was obtained the following day. Suva was reached on May 8, and after unloading 2000 tons of cargo for Fiji she resumed bei voyage. Except for three days’ stormy conditions in the Atlantic generally fine weathei prevailed on the voyage which was uneventful. Captain C. N. ' ’ SHIPBEEAKERS CLAIM OLD SAILERS According to the Commercial News and Shipping List, a number of sailing vesselb, once well known in Australian waters, are now being broken up. The Norwegian barque Antria, 1998 tons, was formerly the French-owned Cornel-Bart, and visited Newcastle last year. For many years she carried grain from Australia to the United Kingdom or the Continent. The French barque Bayard, 1970 tons, which is being broken up at Genoa, was also a frequent visitor to Newcastle. The ship Barmen, 1670 tons, which was the first German sailing vessel to visit Sydney after the Great War, is now being scrapped at Boness,, Scotland The four-masted barque Dundee, which was built in 1882 and had a wonderful sailing record, recently arrived at Rotterdam from Brest, where she put in over four years ago totally dismasted. This old sailer in 1891 made a record passage from Cardiff to Rio of 31 days. She also made the fastest passage on record from Montrose (Scotland) to Sydney in 77 days. The French ship Parchim, which was built in Germany 33 years ago, made some very fast passages during her career She arrived at. Antwerp from Adelaide on July 19 last year after a passage of 146 days She has been sold to British shipbreakers for a little over £2OOO, BLUFF HARBOUR AFFAIRS. In his annual address presented to last Thursday’s meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board, the chairman said that the port again occupied the sixth place on the staHs tical order of volume of shipping enter.ng the various ports in the Dominion. The harbourmaster reported that 54 overseas vessels with a total tonnage of 245,849 tons visited the port, being an increase ot four vessels more than the year 1924. The total volume of trade for the port amounted to 148,258 tons Work has steadily proceeded with the con struction of the new wharf, including rock boring, blasting, and dredging so as to give an ultimate depth of 30ft at low water at this wharf Concrete piles have been made, a new pile-driving machine has been purchased and a start has now been made with the driving of these piles. The dredge has been kept busy o;i the usual dredging work and when not otherwise engaged is kept busy at the middle bank gradually improving the swinging basin. Blasting operations have been carried on when possible on the rocks located in the cnannel near Channel Rocks, with the object of reducing these so as to give over 24ft, at low water This is a, alow, tedious, and expensive job. Plans have been approved by the Marine Department for the new slip-way and this work is now in hand. Also plans were approved for the concrete sheet piling and wall foi the new wharf. A second diver has been ap pointed to cope with the extra diving work. The contracts for the supply of timber for the new wharf are practically completed The electric lighting facilities have been increased on the wharf. The board has under consideration the question of providing additional beacons and lights to better mark the entrance channel, tire harbourmaster and engineer having, by direction of the board, reported upon the subject.
