William Alfred Barber, the bogus curate, who attracted widespread attention towards the end of 1921, has been married at Liverpool. His bride was May Jones, of Waterworth street, Liverpool, and the wedding took place at Saint Benedict’s Church, Everton. Barber, it will be remembered, posed as a curate in three North of England parishes, conducting marriage and burial services. He was first of all bound over at Pudsey on a charge of obtaining money by falsely representing himself to bo a Clerk in Holy Orders. Lalcr he was again bound over on a second charge of falsely pretending to be in rioiy Orders and knowingly and wilfully solemnising matrimony contrary to law. When the first warrant, was issued Barber completely disappeared. Miss Jones,' then appealed to him to come forward,’And a fortnight later ho walked into Bow Street police' station and surrendered, having tramped to London.
