SOUTHLAND FARMERS’ UNION.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (F.boh Odb Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, May 28. The annual provincial conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union of the Southland provincial district was held to-day, Mr Alexander M'Kenzle, of Otahuti, presiding over a large attendance of delegates from 29 branches. The President extended a welcome to the delegates, and In reviewing the past year’s work stated that it had been shown conclusively that the farmers were able to deal with the questions of the day in a way that was fair to all sections of the community. The position of the union showed a decided improvement, afid, on the whole, satisfactory progress had been made. The Provincial Executive was elected as follows: —President, Mr Henry Smith; vice, presidents—Messrs D. Dickie (Gore), D. J. Heonan (Nightcaps), E. K. Sim (Pukemaori), E. Bowmar (Gore), and R. Aruott (AVyndham). Ten nominations wore received for the five positions. Forty-one remits on various subjects were tabled for discussion, and occupied the attention of the delegates for the whole of the day and evening. The usual complimentary dinner was hold in the early part of the evening, and was largely attended.
