DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS’ SOCIETY.

A meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Competitions Society was held in the secretary's board room on Thursday night, Mr J. H. Walker presiding. In connection with the ballet dancing, tbe Secretary explained there had been a slight misunderstanding about the suggested alteration in this section. What was really desired was to describe the section 1 as “group and ballet dancing," and to have two sections —one for competitors under 13 years of age; and the other section to be open.—This was agreed to. The Secretary also reported that a wellattended meeting of representatives of business firms had been held to discuss tbe suggested holding of a firms’ choir contest, and it had been unanimously agreed to hold this contest. The following conditions had been drawn up: That choirs consist dl not more than 25, and not less than 16 voices. Choirs to consist of bon lido employees of firms, but it to be permissible to' include not more than four outside members in a cboir, provided these outside members are a husband or wife, father or mother, brother or sislei, or son or daughter of a bona fide employee of such firms. Firms are permitted to obtain an outside conductor and an accompan Ist. The following test pieces Lave, been chosen for this year’s contest; (a) "Haill Smiling Morn’’ (Spofforth); (8) “In This Hour of Softened Splendour” (Pinsmti); both accompanied,—lt was resolved that the prize money for this contest should be: First prize £ls, second pri„e £lO. and third prize £5. The Shakespeare Club wrote offering a special prize of £2 2s for the highest marks gained in the Shakespearean recitations.— Received with thanks. The Dunedin Burns Club wrote offering to donate £6 6s to the prize fund on tbe same lines as last year.—Received. The Secretary reported that Messrs It. Hudson and Co, had a-gnin offered to donate a scholarship in the vocal section.—Tbe aeere tary was instructed to convey to Messrs UHudson and Co the committee’s appreciation of their continued interest in the work of the society. It was resolved to make a special effort to obtain entri. in the impromptu speech competition luis year, and it was decided to offer prizes of £5 ss, £3 3s, and £1 Is tor this competition. A large amount of detail business was transacted, and the mestion of the appoint ment of judges was referred to the various sub-committees to report.
