ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY’S CONCERT.

For the first concert of the thirty-ninth season in His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday evening this society has been ‘"ortunato in securing the services of Miss Lorna Smith and Mr John T. Leech as soloists. Miss Smith, who possesses a rich contralto voice, will be heard in “Three Fishers”- (Hullah) and “Ombra mai fu” (Handel). The reappearance of Mr Leech on the concert platform will be very welcome- He will sing “Angels Guard Thee” (Godard) and “The Message” (Blumenthul). The orchestral numbers have been well selected, and include one item that has not yet been rendered in Dunedin—"A Night on Mount Chauve” (M. Moussorgsky). The programme also includes the overture “Son and Stranger” (Mendelssohn), march from “Tannhauser” (Wagner), “Three Dances from Henry YIII” (Edward German), Schubert’s Fifth Sympony (by request), and a selection from the popular comic opera “The Gondoliers” (Sullivan). The box plan is now open at the Bristol.
