The recent storm in Auckland was responsible for the death of at least one of the inmates of the Zoological Gardens (says the New Zealand Herald). By some means the male ostrich got into the flooded creek running through the zoo grounds and was found drowned. The annual report of the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry shows a loss of £1999 on the year’s operatoins, which, with £2640 representing depreciation, makes a total deficit of £4540.
