The question of reverting to the_ ward system of representation on the Christchurch City Council was briefly referred to at the last meeting of the Council _ of the United Burgesses’ Association, arising out of a letter which had been received from the Sprevdon Association (states the Lyttelton Time*). Mr F. Henessey said that the Sprevdon Association was of the opinion that the present system jf election was not altogether satisfactory, and it was suggested that the city should be subdivided into four blocks or wards, each one returning a certain number of councillors. At present a number of councillors lived at Sumner, Redcliffs, New Brighton, and other places outside the city, and it was considered that under the ward system better local representation would be obtained. The council decided to discuss the matter at its next meeting, an amendment that a special meeting of delegates from city associations be held to consider it, being defeated.
