CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.

The regular meeting of the Clutha Presbytery was held at Balclutha on Friday last. The Rev. A. V. G. Chandler presided over a good attendance of members. The Clerk referred to the loss to the Church by the death of Professor D. B. Waters, who was a son of the Rev. J. Waters, first minister in Warepa, and .a motion of sympathy with Ida widow and relatives was carried, the members standing in silence. The records of the congregations of Tokomairiro, Lawrence, Balclutha, and Clydevale were examined, A mirute of appreciation of the services of the Rev. D. S. Mason was adopted on tin occasion of his retirement. The date of the induction of the Rev. . W. French in Kaitangata was fixed for Wednesday, Mav 5. Leave of absence to the Rev. A. V. G Chandler to visit the Homeland was gianted up to 12 months. A communication from the Rev. G. Budd in regard to the present dearth of candidates for the ministry was submitted by the clerk, and a f ler some discussion the following resolution moved by Dr Currie and seconded by the clerk, was unanimously adopted—“ The Presbytery heartily commends the jubilee bursary scheme at present before the Church to the members within the bounds. It also urges young men of the Bible classes, in class or conference, seriously to consider the present extarordinary dearth of ministers and ask themselves if, at such a time, the call of the Great Head of the Church is not that more of them give themselves to preparation for the work of the ministry. The Presbytery further suggests that the college professors should be requested to bring the great need for candidates for the ministry before the Y.M.B.C. Conference from year to year, and as opportunity offers, before Presbyteries and congregations. Presbytery Committees for the year were appointed. The proposed regulations for the beneficiary funds were remitted to a committee to report to the next Presbytery meeting. The junior communicant members’ remit was referred to the Youth Committee to report. Examiners for Sunday school examinations were appointed as follows:—For Section A and B, the Rev. * M'Neur; for Sections C and D, the Re\. R. Aliev; tor Sections E and G, the Bey. A. J. H. Dow; and for essays, the Rev \\ . it. Hume. . , ~ ~ , The month for church rally was fixed as May, and arrangements were referred to the Evanglistic Committee. It was agreed to resume the conferences on special topics at Presbytery meet mgs. The Revs H. T. Blair and J, welcomed on their appointment in charge of Miiburn and South Molyneux respectively. As the year for which the Hey .H. Hume was appointed to fulfil the duties of cleik of Presbytery had closed, it was agreed, on the motion of Mr Morton, seconded hj Mr M'Neur, definitely to appoint him to -he ° As*the Rev. A. V. G.
