SULPHUR FUMES.
AN ENGINEER OVERCOME. A PROMPT’ RESCUE. (Per United Press Association.) ROTORUA, April 12. Andrew Grey Muir, Public Works Engineer, superintending the construction of the Rotorua drainage works, descended a junction pit at the corner of Eruera and Fenton streets, presumably to inspect. Frederick Davies, a taxi motor works proprietor, whose place adjoins the pit, looked down and saw Muir in a state of collapse. He gave the alarm, and Henry Charles Church, a worker, jumped into the pit, seized Muir, and held his body up above the fumes. Assistance arrived, and Muir, complete] v unconscious, was rescued. Dr Lends, after 20 minutes, restored respiration. Muir was taken to the hospital. where he lies in a serious condition. The sulphur fumes are particularly bad, and the weather conditions prevailing accentuate the danger.
