MANCHESTER UNITY.

BIENNIAL CONFERENCE. (Pe® United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 12. The biennial meeting of the New Zealand Manchester Unity was attended by 47 delegates. They were welcomed by the Mayor. The report states that during the biennial period the membership averaged 1294 per annum, and that the value of the general fund increased from £73,999 to £88,687. The suggested appointment of a propaganda officer to the society was referred back to the directors for further information to be submitted to the conference. The report of the parliamentary agent stated that friendly societies were now exempt from stamp duty for moneys received. Regalia, emblems, certificates, almanacs, banners and ritual books were exempt from Customs duty. ' The election of officers resulted as follows ; Grand Master, Mr T. Aitken (Auckland) ; deputy master, Mr F. Pritchard (Ashburton); grand trustees, Messrs I. Clark, W. H. Madeley and A. C- Blair, F.D.G.M.S. (Wellington); directors, Messrs H. S. M. Quigley (Hawke’s Bay), C. il Ambridge (Auckland), P. M. Smith (Wellington). T. J. Archbcld (North Canterbury), F. W. Watt (Ashburton), W. W'Millan (Auckland) ; auditor Mr E. W. Kellow. It was resolved that the next biennial conference he held at Hastings, Hawke’s Bay. A remit to reduce the number of deputies to the biennial conference, moved by Mr I. Salek (Wanganui), was withdrawn. An amendment on the same subject was Tost on the voices.
