HERB, THERE, AND EVERYWHERE. For the past week Mr L. J Schmitt, of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Wellington has been acting commissioner of the New Zealand Government Court. He returned north on Friday, and his plate will be taken by Mr F. Johnson, who arrived on Saturday evening. Mr Johnson wil] be in charge of the pavilion until the return of the commissioner. Mr J vV. Collins. Saturday is the free day at the Art Gallery, and as is only 'natural the majority of visitors prefer to wait until the close of the week to examine the paintings that are hung within On Saturday afternoon the gallery „was a popular destination tor the crowds, and hundreds drifted that way as the day wore on. The gallery is being greatly admired by all visitors. The attendants report that there has been no trouble, or damage of any serious nature The dear old soul was showing visiting friends the sights of the Exhibition, and the little party had reached the British Court. VV ith the proud assurance of one wno been there before and knew the items of special interest, she piloted them through the various wings until the full suit of armour in the entrance hall was reached. Every feature of the suit was examined, and the narrowness of the ancient warrior's waist was commented upon. , then one of the party noticed the steel bracket on the right side of the breast-plate used to support the long lance when charging. "What was that for?’ she asked. "VVell I am not sure,” was the reply of the self-ap-pointed guide, "but 1 think that was what tue knight used to hang his rifle on.”
