JAZZ MUSIC
AUSTRIAN CONDUCTOR'S COMMENT. ASSOCIATED WITH NIGGERS. (Press Association—Bv Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 10. (Received April 11, at 5.5 p.m.) “I’m not a nigger so 1 cannot write jazz,” declared M. Strauss who has arrived from Vienna to conduct the orchestra .for the screen production of the opera “Rosenkavalier.’’ “Whether jazz is better than other music 1 will not say. Jazz is beyond my understanding. There will be no saxaphone in my orchestra if T know' it.” M. Strauss claimed the right to change his previous opinion that barrel-organ music was good enough for the films. He now holds that there will be a big future welding of good music and films.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
