FIRES.
Bush ' fires in the suburbs caused the City Fire Brigade to make five trips yesterday between noon and half-past 2. Two of the fires were on the corporation reserve, two on the Anderson’s Bay road, and one at Maori Hill. No damage was done to property. The brigade received a call at 7.10 in the evening to the bullock track at Woodhangh, where a small bush fire was extinguished before any damage to property had resulted. A further call at 11.10 p.m. resulted in the brigade again turning out to a blase on the Town Belt, which was dealt with by the chemical engine before it had spread to any extentELECTRIC CABLE FUSES. (Pei? United Pkess Association.) AUCKLAND, April 10. The fusing of an electric cable at 3.50 this morning caused an explosion on the footpath outside the premises of the Auckland Meat Companv in Queen street. The flames shot out of the pavement, and set fire to a wooden-frame shop window, which wag shattered. The fire brigade extinguished the flames.
