AUCKLAND WINS TOURNAMENT. NORTH ISLAND BEATS SOUTH ISLAND. The basket ball tournament, continued at the Exhibition sports ground on Saturday, was again favoured by the weather. ihe final games of the competition were played in the morning and early afternoon, Auck land winning the New Zealand Basket Ball Association’s Cup with 12 points. Wellington were runners-up with 10. A match between the North Island and South Island teams resulted in a win for the former. The matches resulted as follows: COURT A. Auckland 47 beat Otago A 1 17. , Southland 46 beat North Otago 22. Auckland 66 beat Otago A2 4. Auckland 57 beat Canterbury 18. COURT B. Wellington 70 beat North Otago 2. Canterbury 21 beat Otago A 1 19. Wellington 40 beat Southland 14. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS. The championship point s were as follows ; —Auckland 12, Wellington 10, Canterbury 8, Otago A 1 4, Southland 4, Otago A 22, North Otago 0. NORTH v. SOUTH. The match between teams representing the North and South Islands was won by the former by 33 points to 19. The game was fast and wa a characterised by clean handling, but North Island were much the superior ’ team, the centres being mainly responsible tor their success. lh© goalthrowing on both sides was good. Misses Roberts and Orbcll, of the North Island team, wer‘e particularly sure. NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual meeting of the New Zealand Basket Ball Association was opened m the T.W.C.A. on Friday night. 'JLnere were present Mrs M Times (president) and Miss Greig (Southland), Mrs Muir and Miss Archer (Canterbury), Miss Armstrong and Miss Crumpton, hon. secretary {VVellington), Miss Johnston and Miss M‘Gmley (Auckland). Miss Budd and Miss Knight (Otago), and Miss Siev wright (North Otago). The President, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, welcomed a new association North Otago. They hoped that other small centres rouid soon follow the example set by Oamaru. She also mentioned that the Wellington Primary Schools’ Association had adopted the , laying rules of the New Zealand Association, and the Otago and Southland delegates had intimated that the Primary Schools’ Associations in their districts would also adopt these rules. The president hoped that other primary associations would take up this matter as it was obviously to the advantage of basket ball in ho Dominion that .the same rules should be played everywhere. Each centre had learned something about the game from tire tournament. The value of such tournaments lay in tile spirit of friendliness between the girls of different centres. The finances "’fife in a healthy condition, there being a credit balance of about £93. and even after delegates’ expenses had been paid the association would be financially sound. The motion was seconded oy W"w armstrong and carried. . , . A motion that the North Otago Union be granted affiliation was carried with acclamation. Delegates' fees and accounts amounting to £33 Is lid were passed for payment. The election of officers resulted as follows; Patroness, Mrs Coates; president, Mrs R. S. M Innes (Southland); vice-president, Mrs H. D. Muir (Canterbury); auditor, Mr W. Waddilove. It was decided that the secretary and treasurer should have no voting power and should be raid an honorarium, and should reside in the same town as the president. It was left to the president to make an appointment for the ensuing year. The following remits were brought forward That a rebate (amount to be decided by Council) be allowed any centre holding the New Zealand Tournament within its boundaries (Canterbury).—Carried, the amount to bo based upon the delegates’ fees. That the financial yeai shall end on June 30 of each year.—Carried. That clause 24 be amended tc read,, “the travelling expenses of delegates shall be paid ” —Carried. That to clause 8 be added: “That when an association is entitled to only one vote, only one delegate be appointed, and that an association affiliated less than one year be allowed only one delegate.’’—Carried. The following alterations were made to the playing rules: — A player cannot Itqpklly come into personal contact with an opponent in such a manner as to interfere with the game. The game shall be commenced by the referee throwing the ball in the air and midway between the jumping centres. The ball shall not be passed over a complete third of the field. It shall touch a player in that third. The ball may be bounced downwards once with one hand and caught by the same player, but be thrown immediately after. The ball held in both hands cannot be bounced. An unguarded throw towards another player shall be given if (a) any part of a player touches a field line or the ground across a field line; ib) if the hall is passed over a complete third or not touched oy a nlayer in (hat third.
