HOSPITALS IN NEW ZEALAND. DR MACEACHBRN’S MESSAGE. (Pan United Pbesb Association.) WELLINGTON, April 9. Dr Malcolm T. Macßachern, associate director of the American College of Surgeons, prior to leaving Wellington for Auckland to-day, en route to Vancouver, handed the Press a farewell message to the people of New Zealand. After acknowledging the kindness he had received during his visit, and stating the objects of his tour — namely, to give advice on hospital matters to the Governments of Victoria. New South Wales, and New Zealand, he sail that his visit had been made solely in the interests of the patient and the patient to be. Uo reiterated his objective that every hospital was “service to the patient.” He acknowledge! the splendid work done by Dr Valintine, Director-General of Health, in building np the present health hospital service in New Zealand. He was sure that the suggested adjustments, so well received by the joint conference of the Health Department and hospital boards with himself, would tend to improve the present system. He hoped that the Dominion hospitals would continue to receive much benefit from the knowledge gained and Imparted through the interchange of international viewpoints by representatives from this country visiting England, America, and other countries to study hospital problems, as well as by having visitors from abroad to investigate onr system. He appealed to the citizens to take a deep community pride and interest in their fine hospitals and co-operate to the fullest extent with the Health Department and hospital boards in coping with the main problems facing the system at present.—namely (1) too maul hospital hoards: (2) lack of a uniform method of the staffing of hosn'tals. embracing as many as possible of practising physicians: (3) the early establishment of the community hospital system catering tor all sections of the community through offering different tv of "ccomrnodntion with a common service to all.
