That Backward Point of View. V V I’ve been puzzling my head what ti talk about this week. Beal tired an( weary, after a long trip round the grow iug plantations o! N.Z. Perpetual Forests Ltd., I sat down tho other night, filler the old pipe with good, strong tobacco and thought about many things. You re member .me telling you last wr<ek abou “the little - things that count in life?'* Well, I said to myself, life ie a rea funny thing. It all depends on the poin of view. I’m not a pessimist, mind you i Pessimists are always hunting up gloom; ideas, and life is too short to burdei oneself with woe; anyway, one gets enoug: trouble in the ordinary course of existenc without going out of one’s wuy to tr and find more; but, somehow, the othc night I got thinking on the backward poln of view. I looked at. myself the other morr ing in the lass when I was shaving and I could see quite a lot of grey hairs i a head which was one time free from th usual eigas of advancing years. I notice a lob of lines, too, on my face, and began to think of all the things I ghoul have done to advance myself in life. Th thought crossed my mind. “How many of m fri<snrl« art* lilro m o naffinn ,-.I A T>. friends are just like me, getting old grey and sometimes pretty livery ?” Not that I am tired of my job, you’! understand, but I just had a fit of th “blues.” I felt I had not done much fo the family; this hurt. Tn m; young days I was not the saving kind—took life as it came and cared little of th' future. I figured out the unnecessary drinks drank, the round of fun and frolic whicl took all my spare cash in my growing years l ? m not a mean man, and I don’t gtin myself, but I worked out that since I*v< earned a man’s wage I’ve wasted at least £1 a week for the post thirty-odd years Just think of it, over £ISOO, and I am not counting the interest! Then I thought of all the people, thousands of them, who are wasting money, and growing older every day, and putting nothing by for the dead-end days when there seems to be nothing left but the backward point of view. , Do you know you can cultivate the saving habit just as easy as the spending habit? and I raise my hat to N.Z. Perpetual Forests, Ltd., for producing a plan which will make the saving of round about 4d per day hare a good chance of growing into a solid £590 as the years go by. The thing’s worth looking into. Over 40,000 people are trying out the N.Z. Perpetual Forests, Ltd, saving plan to-day. Are you going to be a spender or a saver? I hope you’ll be the latter when I have a “talk”, with you next week. You CANNOT ignore Jim’s advice For YOUR sake, for YOUR CHILDREN’S sake, write 10-day. CUT HERE—WHITE IN PENCIL. Tha Secretary, SMITH-WYLIE AND CO., LTD., Corner Moray Place West, or P.O. It might lead to one of those arguments ! There’s a better method than arguing. It’s the Bostock plan. Let the man have his sensible shoes ; shoes that he calls shoes. Then add to their substance character of shape and line. And the woman ? Let her shoes be a joy to her vanity. And, when she isn’t looking, add the comfort of a perfect fit.
