LONDON TAXI-CAB FARES.
OPPOSITION TO DEDUCTION. With the object of arriving at an agreed policy with regard to the British Home Oflice proposals for a reduction of taxi-cab farce in London representatives from the whole of the tab trade, including proprietor's, owner-drivers, and drivers, met in conference at the Shaftesbury Hotel recently. The conference lasted the entire day, the proceedings being private, • It is understood that considerable opposition was expressed to the modifications proposed bv the Home Office, x the pievaiiing opinion being that the existing charges were justified bv the price of petrol, the cost of vehicles and other conditions taken at post war valuation. “The greater part of the pioprietary .nterests and the drivers are opposed to any change in the directions suggested," an official stated to a press representative. "A reduction of fares on certain conditions, such, for instance, as a limitation of licenses, is supported only by a very small section o T ~ the proprietors."
