Sir Alfred Mond, replying to Lord, Oxford and Asquith, sayfe: “iou have long been perfectly aware of the acute party differences over the land policy and if you had wished to discuss it with me I was always at your disposal. —Sydney Sun Cable. SIR ALFRED MOND’S DEFECTION.. LORD OXFORD’S VIEWS. LONDON, January 27. Lord Oxford and Asquith has sent a letter to Sir Alfi’ed Mond regretting that the latter did not discuss the matter with him beforehand. Lord Oxford said he was unaware of the reason upon which Sir Alfred Mond had presupposed the Liberal Party’s land policy decision was based. He was sorry that after many of the services rendered to Liberalism Sir Alfred Mond should have shifted his allegiance to the Protectionist Party, thus following his father’s example, Mr Henry Mond, chairman of the Eastern Counties Liberal Federation who joined the Conservatives. Sir Alfred Mond, interviewed by a Daily Telegraph representative said: “I am anxious to help Mr Baldwin in dealing with big industrial ouestions, such as electricity and coal. Wo have both been in the industry and can view the problems in the same light. I believe that the old herminology of master and man must be scrapped. T have been encouraged by Mr Baldwin’s enlightened views on these matters ; and there is the question of Empire. I have been a strong Imperialist all my life. I have never voted against preference to the dominions, which is not imposing a tax on the British taxpayer. More than oneo I have advocated the development of the idea of a free exchange of goods throughout the Empire, and I am largely responsible for the Empire Settlement Act.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
