IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE.

SCHOOLBOYS AND DOMESTICS.

SHORT QUARANTINE NECESSARY.

(Pee United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 23. The Athenic, which arrived from Southampton to-day, brought 380 English, Scottish, and Irish immigrants. Of this total 123 will remain in the Auckland district, the remainder going to various centres i». the North and South Islands.

An epidemic of chickenpox broke put among the passengers during the voyage, but, fortunately, its ravages were not of a very serious nature, and were limited tp 10 children. There is also a case of measles on board. The cases were isolated as .soort as they wore diagnosed about three weeks ago, and an upper deck was reserved for invalids. The disease has now almost run its course, but in all cases in which traces still remain orders have been given for the quarantine of the patients on the ship until the danger.of infection is over. It is expected that the period will not be longer than a few days. Included in the immigrant list arp 40 domestic servants under the charge of Mrs Lisle Price. All have had at least ' two years’ experience, and several six or seven. A good many of them already have their situations bool ed, including two who- have come out to join Lady Alice Fergasson's household.

Twenty-one public schoolboys arrived' by the vessel to go on the land. There were also eight British sailors from the Chatham and Devonport barracks. They have come to join the Veronica and Laburnum on the New Zealand station. With the exception of a few stormy days in the Pacific, the vovnge was an enjoyable one, passengers and officers engaging in the usual round of sports, concerts, dances, and other festivities.
