Subdivision, who had been snowing plenty of pace in juvenile parades, was backed down to loss than evens in the Debutante Stakes, with anything else outside Flying Juliet and Kilmoyler paying a fine price. At the start Alyson lost several lengths, and Kilperon dwelt. Glen Innes began very oviiotly, and led out from Kilmoyler, Subdivision, Flying Juliet, and Spade. As they filed across the top Kilperon was noticed making up his leeway. Subdivision and Glen Innes were on terms as the field came round tho bend into the straight, Kilmoyler being handy, and Kilperon and Spade next. Once in tho straight, Kilperon came with a good run on the outside, and at the half-distance Subdivision, Kilmoyler, and Kilperon were on even terms. It was tho favourite who weakened first, and Kilperon 'beat Kilmoyler by a neck, with Subdivision half a length away. Glen Innes, bracketed with the winner, was a good fourth, and then in order came Spade, Vote, Flying Juliet, and Alyson. Otauru Kid was a firm favourite in tho GonvilJe Hurdles, with Prince Rufus and Santiago next in order. The favourite was kept in a handy position all tho way, Zircon and Askari being tho oarlyleaders, with Prince Rufus kept well back. At the half-mile Otauru Kid was taken to tho front and led into the straight from Omabu, Santiago, Askari, and Prince Rufus. Onoe heads were turned for home Santiago and Otauru Kid drew clear, the favourite winning by a head. Prince Rufus was a couple of lengths away third, with Omahu fourth and Lady Comet, Zircon, and Askari next. The Spring Hack Handicap was run in two divisions. Shuteye was a rather better favourite than Gold Box, with Willow Wai next. In the first division Gold Box began quickest from Rangimoana, Merle, Lady Warterlow, and Willow Wai. Gold Box showed tho way into the straight from Bonny Dawn, Merle, Willow Wai, and Lucrative, and in a slashing finish Gold Box just got the decision by a head from Willow Wai, with Merle a length away third. Then came Lucemal, Bonny Dawn, Lady Waterlow, Wembley, and Rangimoana. . The order emt from the bamer in the second division was Lin Arlington, Empire Camp, Sovena, Minotus, Shuteye, Lucrative, and Adavale. Crossing tho top, Empire Camp went to the front, and showed tho way into the straight from Lin Arlington Sovena, Minotus, Shuteye, and Lucrative. At the half-distance Shuteye and Sovena were clear, and tho former won by a nock, with Minous finishing strongly three-quarters of a length away. Empire Camp was fourth. One of the best races ever soon on the Wanganui course was witnessed in the thrilling contest for tho Eclipse Stakes, in which a fine field lined up. Gold Light waa backed down to about six to four on, being twice as heavily supported as Reromoana and Inferno. A good start waa effected, and in the early race for position going out of tho straight Nigger Miixurel from No. 2 soon hit the front. On tho bend Inferno wont up and showed tho way into tho back stretch to Royal Divorce, Gold Light, Nigger Minstrel, and Motley. At the live furlongs Gold Light moved forward, and was up with Inferno passing the half-mile, with Nigger Minstrel next, and Reremoana, Royal Divorce, and Rapine following. Gold Light still maintained her lead inside the distance, where Nigger Minstrel began to come up. A hundred yards from the post Nigger Minstrel and Gold Light were running neck and neck, and with tho judge only a chain away the former got his head in front, Gold Light came at him gamely, and la a great finish a dead heat was declared. Rapine ■was placed third a length and a-half .away, but Reremoana was in that position, a length in front of Rapine. Then came Roval Divorce and Inferno, with Motley several lengths back. It was a brilliant field and a wonderful race, and even _ if it appeared from the press stand that Nigger Minstrel had won by the narrowest of margin?, the judge was the only one in a position’ to decide. . Of the 14 runners m the Railway Hack Handicap, Indian Sage was made a good favourite from Bisox and Ring Potoa. Indian Sage, anticipating the release, was in the van at onoe from The Thorn, Biaox, Ring Potoa, Royal Mint, and Grand Lupin.

At the half-mile Bisox had run to the front, but at tho home turn the filly and Grand Lupin wore on equal terms just ;n front of Tangikai, Indian Sage, The Thorn, Dress Circle, and Empire Camp. Once in the straight Bisox drew clear and finally won. by a length and three-quarters from The Thorn, who was a neck in front of Grand Lupin, with Indian Sage, Miss Hupana, Ring Potoa, Tangikai, and Dress Circle next. In the Higgio Handicap backers went for Spoony, Imperial Spark, and Alaric, these throe carrying the bulk of the money. Of tho others, Avola and Barrier had the most friends. At the rise of the barrier Alaric was chopped out. Passing tho post tho first time, Avola and Tresham were bowling along together in tho van, with Imperial Spark, Spoony, Shining Armour, Kilceit, end Alaric following in that order. At the five furlongs Avola had taken charge from Barrier, Spoony, Kilceit, Imperial Spark, and Alaric. Crossing the top Shining Armour made his effort, and was just behind Avola at tho home turn, with Imperial Spark, Barrier, Alaric, and Sunshot next in order. Once in the straight Avola stopped quickly, leaving Shining Armour in the lead, but then Watts brought Alario along and, finishing in great stylo, the Wanganui horse got up to beat Shining Armour by a neck. A length and a-balf away was Imperial Spark, and then came Kilceit, Sunshot, Trespass, and Spoony. It was a fine performance on Alaric’s part. The three top-weights monopolised the betting in the Moutoa Hack. De Luxe, Troilue, To Monanui and Puawhato were in line going out of the straight, and Troilus had taken charge entering the back stretch from De Luxe, Te Monanui, Star Hanger, Cooinda, and Dubious, with Bonhomme making a forward move. At the half-mile Star Ranger had joined Trollus in the lead, the former turning into the straight first from Troilus, 1)4 Luxe, Te Monanui, Dubious, Bonhomme, and Vaward. At tho half-distance Te Monanui went after Star Ranger, and wore him down to win by a neck, De Luxe being in tho minor placing a good half-length away. Duboius was fourth, and Fire Brigade, Troilus, Vaward, and Bonhomme next. All started in the Owen Handicap, which saw a big pool on the machine. Fool's Paradise being backed as if he could not be beaten. Nancy Lee, tho second fancy, carried only half as much as the favourite. When they were despatched Fool's Paradise, Nancy Lee, Euphonium, Deluge, ami Pouma raced in line for a furlong, and at the half-mile Pouma was just in front of Oration, Nancy Lee, Pool’s Paradise, and Deluge. The favourite drifted back crossing the top, and the order into tho straight was Pouma, Rose of Athens, Oration, Nancy Lee, and Eehutai. At tho half-distance Rose of Athens and Nancy Lee were together, and in an interesting finish the former prevailed by half a length. Lucius, who finished fast in the middle of the course, was a neck behind hts consistent Nancy Lee, with Pool’s Paradise fourth, Some Red fifth, and Deluge, Euphonium, Oration, and Pouma following.
