ORPHANS’ CLUB.

The Dunedin Orphans’ Club held its fortnightly meeting in the Stuart Street Mall last night. Bro. W. Dobbie presided. An apology for absence was received from Bro. R. Hudson, the president. The Chairman, in his opening remarks, congratulated the members on the success of the club’s Ladies’ Night, and expressed the hope that the high standard would be kept up at future similar functions. He reminded members that the club’s visit to kindred clubs in Timaru and Christchurch would be made on August 29. He concluded by urging all members to support the club’s Hard-up Night on September 15, and hoped that ail would dress (or undress) for the occasion. During the evening the orchestra rendered several selections under Conductor Hilmer Davie, and the following contributed items: Songs—Bros. C. W. Hannah. C. Wcasmaa, A. 5. "Wilson, and W. Carr; recitations, Mros. Allan Young and W. J. Hutton; trombone solo, Bro. I>. Boyd; clarinet solo, Bro. Watson. Mr \V. Vernon, of Fullers' Vaudeville Company, with the assistance ~of “Jerry,” gave a very amusing ventriloquial turn. The accompaniments were played by Bro. J. Haggitt, who also contributed a good story and a humorous song. Proceedings wore brought to a close with a vote of thanks to the chairman, who had taken the chair at very short notice. The vote was carried with cheers and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
