THE RODNEY PENSION
COMMUTED FOR LUMP SUM. Pr«»» Association— By Telegraph— Copyright. LONDON, August 4. (Received August 4, at B.XO p.m.) It was announced in the House of Commons that the Rodney perpetual pension had been commuted m January by the payment of £42,000 to a great-grandson of the famous admiral. —A. and iN.Z. Cable. It was during the regime of the Labour Government that the Treasury decided to commute for a lump sum the pension which was awarded to Admiral Rodney in 1782. Altogether it is estimated that the pension cost the country £324,000.
