(Received August 4, at B.XO p.m.) It was announced in the House of Commons that the Rodney perpetual pension had been commuted m January by the payment of £42,000 to a great-grandson of the famous admiral. —A. and iN.Z. Cable. It was during the regime of the Labour Government that the Treasury decided to commute for a lump sum the pension which was awarded to Admiral Rodney in 1782. Altogether it is estimated that the pension cost the country £324,000.
