The W.C.T.U. held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. Mrs Hiett (president) spoke briefly on Matt, xx, 1-16. Labourers in the vineyard she said might be increased in two ways—either by numerical additions, or by additional zeal on the part of those already in the field. The spirit of willingness to answer new and additional calls for tire service of God was that which was truly valuable in the sight of our Heavenly Leader. The position of recording secretary having become vacant by the resignation of Mrs Plaister, Mrs Douglas was appointed. It was reported that a generous response to the appeal on behalf of Mrs Miller had been received, and it was decided to send the money to her minister in trust for her. Nominations for the officers of the district union were received, Mesdames Hiett, D. Leslie and Macartney being nominated for the positions of president, secretary and treasurer respectively. Mrs Peter Dick reported having arranged with the Young People’s Bible Class Union to Hold a Gospel Temperance rally at whien. all women should be welcome, on the last Sunday in August in Firs' Church. Mrs Don, dominion president of the W.O.T.U , will address this meeting. Arrangement in connection with the work which the union has undertaken duung the visit cf the American fleet were then discussed. A sub-committee to .arrange entertaining items for the evenings was appointed, and it was decided to hold a special meeting to complete arrangement on Friday evening. The monthly meeting of the Kaikorai School Committee was held on Saturday when the headmaster reported that the roll was 553. with an average attendance of* 518, and that the inspection report in the school was very good. The sports teams were still maintaining their improved form and the Kaikorai Football Club had contributed two dozen Football Manuals. The use of the gymnasium was granted the Young Helpers’ League for August 8 to hold a bazaar and concert. The newly appointed janitor had commenced his duties. Messrs Walden and Holden were appointed a visiting committee for the month. A meeting of returned soldiers from Waipiata and surrounding districts was held in Waipiata on July 21. a large number being present. Mr White Howell occupied the chair. Nominations for the position of chairman for the ensuing year were received, and Mr Alex. Booth was unanimously elected. On Mr Howell vacating the chair, a hearty vote of thanks was passed for the able manner in which ho had carried out his duties during the past year, and on a motion being put to the meeting it was decided that he be elected vice-president. It was decided that the annual ball be held on August 21, and a strong committee was formed to got matters in hand in order to make this annual function the success it had been in previous years.
