WELLINGTON v. SOUTHLAND. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 4. The following teabi will represent Wellington to-morrow against Southland: — Backs —Walters. Svenson, Tilyard, Bedell, M. Nicholls, L. Johnson, Warrick; forwards —Porter (captain), Young, Thomas, Mathoson, Sly, Martin Smith, S. Shearer, Wilson. SOUTH OTAGO GAMES. The Balclutha Primary School team played its final match for the competition against Milton on Saturday, and were defeated by 18 points to 9, on the Milton ground. This was Balclutha’s first defeat in this season’s competition, but, their previous successes entitle them to the coveted shield, which they win by one point from Milton, last year’s holders. As a reward for their success the winners will bo given a trip to Dunedin on Friday, where, in the afternoon, they play a match with Albany Street School. In the evening they will bo taken to a place of amusement On Saturday morning they are to be taken over the Exhibition buildings, and in the afternoon will witness the senior football match at Carisbrook, returning homo the same evening. Their expenses are being paid 'by the Mayor (Mr White), and the Baclutha Football Club. Needless to say, the boys are looking forward eagerly to their trip to the city. Now that the two flag competitions are over, interest has waned in senior football Nevertheless, the match between Clinton and Kaitangata, on the,Balclutha ground, on Saturday attracted a fair number of spectators. Clinton were the victors by 9 to 5. The curtain-raiser was a game between Kaitangata, and Clutha third fifteens, Clutha. winning by 18 to 11. Smith’s contribution to the winners’ score was 15 points (four goals and a try). EASTERN DISTRICTS REPRESENTATIVES. A team to represent Eastern Districts will bo chosen from the following players, who will play a trial match at Palmerston on Saturday : —Backs—Stringer, Spillane, Kitchen, Burt, Kibblcwhite, Townsend, Porter. Crossan, Kilgonr, M‘Donald, Wilson, W. Sutherland, Williams, Gunn, Te Tau, Barber; forwards—Stewart, Duncan, Maxwell, S. Droavor, F. Dreaver, Duff’ M’Lcw (2), Twining, Rixon, Murray! Micliio, Quinn, Lang, Spdlane. 11. Sheat, Sanderson, Douglass, Driscoll, Hallum, and Wilkinson. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TRIALS.
