SOUTHLAND POWER BOARD.

THE MONOWAI SCHEME. (From Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, July 14. At a meeting of the Southland Electric Power Board yesterday it was decided, with a view to bringing the board and the consumer into closer touch on policy and other matters affecting the welfare of the Monowai scheme, to hold meetings of the full board In the near future in a number of country centres, including Gore, Wymlhara, Tnpnnui, Winton, Lumsden,' and Otautau. This decision followed the consideration of a report by the secretary advocating this course, as a result of the secretary’s observations in connection with interviews and inquiries for information as to the board's policy. The idea is that the board shall hold meetings in the centres named, and that short addresses shall be given by one or two members of the board, after which the board will receive deputations representing the Farmers’ Union branches, Progressive Leagues, and kindred bodies, and from the public generally. It was not proposed that the meeting take the form of inquiries into individual complaints, but that the hoard’s business be dealt with and reviewed in a general way. i The proposal received the unanimous support of the board, and the arrange • merits were left in the hands of the chairman and the secretary.
