THE PROBLEM OF EMPIRE.

TO THE EDITOB. Sih,—l read with pleasure Mr H. E. Child’s letter on the above subject in last Saturday’s issue and hope the majority of your readers perused it—especially the young people who will have to face this problem of Empire sooner perhaps than they think. There is, in that letter, much food for thought for old and young. I am satisfied in my own mind that the Empire will not hold together unless the • people are prepared to make large sacrifices. They are in a competition with the world that will become more severe in the near future. As a united Empire we must have Free Trade in all its parts within the Empire. We cannot expect England to take onr products free while we put a duty on its manufactures. It can get its foods from other countries that are now waiting to supply.—l am etc., Beitisueb. £3*.
