OPERA AT EXHIBITION.
SOCIETY FORMED IX) ORGANISE PRODUCTIONS. One of the attractions being prepared for visitors to the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition is a season of comic opera. An Exhibition Operatic Society was formed at a meeting yesterday afternoon, at which Mr J. H. Walker was voted to the chair. Mr Scott Oolville (director of amusements for the Exhibition) said it was not intended that they should interfere in any way with the established local amateur society. It wae an Exhibition project, pure and simple, the directors having guaranteed the finance. In these circumstanoea he was not asking them for subscriptions or anything of that sort. What he wanted was their help in getting together a strong organisation of soloists and chorus. In the Festival Hall they had a magnificent scope for lighting and scenic effects, and they would be able to get Mr Gustavo Slapoffski’s assistance in training the choir and leading the orchestra. The following office-bearers woro then appointed:—Patron, the Governor-General; vice-patron, the Mayor (ivir H. L. Taploy) • president. Sir Lindo Ferguson; vice-presi-dent, Mr R. Hudson; committee—those present (Mesdamoa A. Barnett, Macassey, R. Hudson, Miss Goerin, Messrs J. H Walker, R. Hudson, T. Ritchie. E. S. Wilson, G. Wycherley, and P. H.
