UNIVERSITY EDUCATION.
SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS STUNG AT CHRISTCHURCH. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, .July 13. At the University Commission' sitting this’ morning representatives of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce submitted suggestions as to methods by which university colleges may send out a fair proportion of men 'and women better equipped to take an important part in the development of commerce; and in the industries that contribute largely to the dominoin’s wealth. |i ’that' respect witnesses stated that suffifient advantage was not taken of consultation "with the representatives of commerce and 1 industry. It was easy to map out courses of study that just missed being of /practical use, for the want of a little practical knowledge. The chamber felt that specialised university courses of, say, two years .in certain subjects, taking students firbTni -say’,' eighteen years to twenty years, would be very valuable.
