THEATRE MANAGEMENT.
TO THE BDITOB. Sue, May I 'beg a little of your space to air a ’grievance about the treatment which J. C Williamson (N.Z.), Ltd,, extends to some of its public? It advertises that the price for admittance to the back stalls early doors of its theatre is five shillings and for later doors four shillings, both plus tax. The custom has been for early doors to cease at 7.30 p.m., but on arriving at 7.40 I found the higher price still being demanded. It was after 7.45 before the office lady was instructed that the canaille lining the vestibule might now be admitted. Arrived in the corridor one found oneself still playing the title role of Mr Moscovitrii’s first play, for everv decent back stalls seat was occupied. The duty of the ecrupulously-attired member of the management in attendance appeared to be only the pleasant one of scanning the full house. To instruct one of the ushers to find seats for his patrons, much less to make any effort in this direction himself, did not seem to occur to his mind, which doubtless was occupied with graver affairs. From a seat eventually obtained at the extreme end of the bench at the rear of the stalls there was the satisfaction, when the lights wore lowered, of discerning enterprising sections of the pit advancing through the gloom to occupy seats in the front stalls. Mv main point, however, is that to bo fair end businesslike the exact time at which oarlv doors close and late doors begin should be definitely stated and adhered to.— I am, etc., Shtxock. July 13.
