PRINCESS THEATRE

A PRODIGAL BILL. With a now rovuo by that eminently popular combination, the Pint Smith Musical Comedy Company, prime favourites with all, and two now acts in a vaudeville half in which the two stars aro also retained, the Princess Theatre programme to-night should lie one of outstanding merit. Phil Smith and Co.’s now' offering is to bo “Sweethearts,” a merry piece with romance, melody, and humour, admirably blended. The story centres round an admiral, who is engaged to n girl young enough to bo his daughter, and his son, a lieutenant, whose fiancee is by no means young. After a series of diverting scenes the situation is adjusted by father and son making an exchange ot financcos. As the peppery old admiral, Phil Smith has a part after his own heart, and prorides fun galore. Ho is w'ell supported bv Nat Hanley, William Greene, Phyllis Nicholson, and Peggy Peate. The bright and dainty Locking of the ballot, many excellent vocal numbers, and artistic dancing are among distinctive features of the entertainment. Two stars remain over to illuminate the vaudeville half—Wee Willie Lancet and Ben Beno. The uny London comedian will present for the first time in New Zealand a sketch, “Willie Goes to Sea,” exemplifying even better than in previous vehicles his talent for impersonations of bad boys. Ben Beno, the aerial sensationalist, whose act over the heads of stall patrons fairly brings the heart into the mouth (as the saying goes), will repeat his hazards, and the Lampinis will offer a very novel mind-reading act. A notable duo to make debut are Mr Wm, Apsdon and Miss Constance Upstone, operatic baritone and solo pianist. Mr Apsclcn has had a notable career with the Carl Rosa Opera Company, and Miss Upstone has given manv recitals at the famous Queen’s Hall. Barbarina, presenting a novelty wire arid animal act, is the other newcomer.
