Rose and Co., Aberdeen, to French buyers, Messrs R’sser and Dion; also the ex-German steamer Rotenfels for £22,500. SALVING THE SOBRAKARTA. The Soerakarta, which stranded on the North Breakwater of the Hook of Holland on March 9, has been partly salved by cutting off 350 ft from the total length of 430 ft. The after end has been floated and docked safely, the engines and boilers being reported in working condition. The operation of cutting and refloating was not. so serious as in the case of the Suevio in 1907, when the after part was floated and taken to Southampton, and a new bow part was built at Belfast and towed to Southampton, where it was joined on. The Suevio was 550 ft long. The Soerakarta is a vessel of 6026 tons gross, built in 1912, and insured on a value of 800,000 florins. She is owned by the Rotterdam Lloyd, and was bound round from Hamburg to Rotterdam with part cargo for the East. Rates paid against total loss varied from 15 guineas to 60 guineas, but more recently the risk has been standing at 80 guineas. The Soerakarta is well known in Sydney. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following vessels were expected to be within range of the under-mentioned wireless stations last night: Auckland.—Aorangi, H.M.S. Laburnum, H.H.S. Veronica, H.M.S. Dunedin, Tofua, Flora, Tungsha, Omana, Ryoka Maru, Kaiapoi, Waitemata, Port Auckland, Waimana, Rimutaka, Ulimaroa, Hertford, Suva, Doonholm, Whangape, Niagara, Wainui, Koromiko. ROYAL PACKET S.N. COMPANY. The directors of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company recommend the payment of a dividend of 6 per cent, per annum, which is the same as that distributed in each of the three preceding years, and is more than was anticipated in some quarters, in view of the trading conditions in various parte of the world where the company’s steamers ply (states Fairplay). The company owns and controls more tonnage built and building than any other concern in the world. Its ordinary capital, and that of its subsidiary companies, must aggregate nearly £40,000,000, with over £18,000,000 of preference capital and £13,000,000 of debentures, and with an unknown amount due under the head of bills payable, loans from bankers, etc. To what extent the public ate interested in the capital of the various companies we do not know, but it is at least interesting to note that, of the £5,000,000 ordinary stock in the Royal Mail, about £3,200,000 is held by Lord Kyslant and the affiliated companies. A year ago the company owned 46 vessels of 366,332 tons gross, while the fleets of those affiliated to it represented a gross registered tonnage of 1,754,434; or a total of 2,120,766 tons. Furthermore, it has taken advantage of the opportunities offered by the Trade Facilities Act, and has, we believe, about £15,000,000 worth of new tonnage under construction. OVERSEAS SUMMARY.
