TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Having been unemployed for a considerable period, I was much gratified to see a report from the Prime Minister to the effect that tho unemployed were immediately to bo placed on public works. Although it is three weeks since the report appeared, I have invariably met with the stereotyped reply, Nothing doing,” when applying at the two local offices. It is very unfortunate that this state of suspended animation should exist when tho unemployed are in urgent need of work.— I am, etc., July —• _____________
