SOVIET RUSSIA
LARGE ORDERS FOR BRITAIN. DESPATCH OF NOTE ABANDONEDPress Association —By Telegraph—Copyrigat. LONDON, July 10. (Received July 10, at 9 p.m.) The Daily Herald states that M. Rakovsky (the Soviet Charge d’Affaires) has returned from Moscow and is prepared to place orders with British firms to the value of £16,000,000, of which £10,000,000 will be for agricultural and other machinery. This is due to the good harvest. The Herald asserts that it was the Government’s intention last week to send a peremptory Note to Moscow, but the plan was abandoned after realisation that an j action would have to be taken in isolation. An earlier plan for a joint Note by the Powers demanding the removal of the headquarters of the Third International from Moscow broke down on Italy’s refusal to participate, Germany also was not favourable, while M. Briand was not prepared to embark on an antiRussian policy.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
