She is listed to sail on Monday evening for Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The Wanaka was to leave Wellington yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due here on Tuesday, and will sail the same day for Bluff. The vessel will return here about July 17 to load for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Kamo, which arrived at Gisborne at 11 a.m. yesterday from Napier, is to sail on Monday for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due here on Thursday next, and will load general cargo for Napier and Gisborne. The Federal Line agency advises that the Ruapehu is expected to be clear of her Liverpool cargo on Monday night. The Shaw, Savill liner Pakeha is to leave Bluff to-day for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. . The Marine Department advises that the Takapuna wharf, which formerly existed on the western shore of Rangitoto Channel at the entrance to Auckland Harbour, has been entirely removed. It is announced that the steamer Sierra Morena, ex War Maxin, of 3000 tong deadweight, has been purchased by Cio Generale Transatiantiqne for general island trade. This vessel must not be confused with the Sierra Morena, which recently discharged a quantity of sulphur at Auckland. KARETU TO LOAD AT MELBOURNE. The Karetu, which is at present discharging Australian cargo at the Birch street wharf, will dock at Port Chalmers on Monday for cleaning and painting. She is expected to sail on Tuesday afternoon for Bluff to complete discharge. From Bluff the Karetu will go to Melbourne and Devonport (Tasmania) to load for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. THE MIDDLEHAM CASTLE. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s chartered steamer Middleham Qastle is duo at Auckland from New Xork about Tuesday next. TUGELA FROM ANTWERP. The New Zealand agents for the NorwogianAustralian Line have been advised that the Tugela left Durban on Juno 27 for New Plymouth, in continuation of her voyage from Antwerp. The vessel, which is duo at New Plymouth on July 23, will discharge at that port, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Napier, and Auckland. She has Baltic timber and general cargo from Antwerp and bark from Durban. CHITBAL ON MAIDEN VOYAGE. The P. and O. Company’s new mail steamer Chitral, a sister ship to the Cathay and Comorin, with similar appointments and decorations, left London on July 3 for Australian ports. PASSENGERS FROM ENGLAND. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rimutaka, which is due at Auckland on Wednesday morning next from Liverpool is bringing 278 passengers for New Zealand as well as cargo from West of England ports for discharge at Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. STEAMER KABAMEA SOLD. News received by a recent English paper states tbal the steamer Karamea, owned by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company (Ltd.), London, has been sold to Italian buyers for about £30,000. The Karamea is of 5627 tons gross, and has been a regular trader between England and New Zealand for many years. FROM PACIFIC COAST PORTS. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that steamers of the Swayne and Hoyte Line are scheduled to sail from San Francisco as follows: —West Islip, July 8, for Auckland and Wellington; AVest Nivaria, July 81, for Auckland and Lyttelton; West Nilus, August 26, for Auckland and Wellington; West Calera, September 19, for Auckland and Lyttelton; AVest Cahokia, October 14, for Auckland and Wellington. DANISH MOTOR SHIP LEISE MAERSK. The Danish motor ship Leise Maersk, which left Sydney recently for Capetown, is the smallest tonnage tramp steamer to load wheat at Sydney this season for an oversea port. The Leise Maersk is only 2925 tons gross, and 1749 tons net register, much smaller than most of the inter-State cargo steamers. Her carrying capacity, however, is large, as she loaded 52,772 bags of wheat, which totalled 4131 tons deadweight. ■ RAFTS ADRIFT IN COOK STRAITS. The Foxton Harbour Board has notified the Marine Department that three z;afta, made of casks and about 20ft in length, are now adrift in Cook Straits. Masters of vessels arc warned to keep a sharp lookout. AORANGI A POPULAR SHIP. That the Union Steam Ship Company’s Royal Mail motor ship Aorangi is becoming popular on the Canadian-Australasian run is shown by the demand on her passenger accommodation, and those who voyaged in the liner on the last up and down trips are loud in their praises of the big motor ship. Testimony in this connection is also given by Mr B. R. Gelling, of Sydney, who travelled on the last trip of the Aorangi to Vancouver. AVriting at sea, under date May 28, he said: “Our experience of the Aorangi falsifies all the statements made to us before we sailed by disgruntled passengers and others. She is a most comfortable and beautifully appointed ghip, and the courtsy and attention we have received from all the staff has left nothing to he desired. 1 can assure you the ship has been grosslymaligned. ’’ BARQUE KILMALLIE CHARTERED. The British barque Kilmallie, 1519 tons register, has been chartered to load a cargo of rocks’alt at Liverpool for Sydney and Newcastle, and is to sail this month. It is interesting to note that the Kilmaillie, which was once a full-rigged ship, is the second British sailing vessel fixed this year to load for Svducy, and belongs to James Stewart and Co., of London, The Kilmaillie, which has been lying in port at Bordeaux since July 21, 1921 (nearly four years), left on May 4 for Liverpool, where she was overhauled.

NEW UNION STEAMIER KARTIGI. ‘ The steel screw collier and general cargo steamer Kartigi was launched by Messrs William Gray and Co. (Ltd.). West Hartlepool, for the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand (Ltd.) on May 22. Her dimensions are;—Length overall, 202 ft Gin; breadth, 44ft 3in; depth moulded, 21ft IJin. She has poop, bridge, winch decks, and forecastle, and will take Lloyd’s highest class, is built on the topside tank cantilever frame system, and is self trimming. The double bottom, topside tanks and large after and forepeaks are constructed for the carriage of water ballast. The machinery is fitted aft. Eight steam winches and a warping winch aft, 10 steel derricks and 10 coaling gaffs Cor the quick handling of cargo, steam steering gear direct on the rudder witjr telemotor control on bridge, steam windlass, atockless anchors, fore and aft rig, lifeboats carried on Welin davits, and steel hatch covers to the main hatchways of the Hogg Car patent corrugated type are fitted. The Central Marine Engine Works of the builders will supply triple-expansion engines having cylinders 20J, and 55 by 39in stroke, and two multitubular main boilers with a steam pressure of 1091 b per square inch. HOKIANGA BAR SOUNDINGS. Captain J. Bollons, master of the Governnrent steamer Tutanekai, reports having taken a line of soundings across the bar at the entrance to Hokianga Harbour on May 21 lost, the shoalest sounding- obtained being 17ft at m.1.w.5., the signal staff bearing 073 deg. Masters of vessels intending to visit Hokianga Harbour should obtain from tbo harbourmaster the latest information regarding the state of the entrance. KAHIKA FROM HOBART. The Union Company’s cargo steamer Kahika arrived in the lower harbour at 3.30 p.m. yesterday from Hobart, after a stormy passage of seven days 3J hours. After being granted pratique the vessel was berthed at the Rattray street wharf to discharge 231,740 feet of timber and 300 bundles of palings. The Kahika Igft Hobart at 10.30 a.m. on Friday, July 3/tind had to contend with a strong south-east gale and heavy seas all the way across the Tasman Sea. The remainder of her timber cargo will be discharged at Lyttelton and Wellington. Captain J. W. Cameron is in command of the Kahika, and has the following officers associated with him;—Chief, Mr N.
