MANCHESTER UNITY.

Tho last meeting of Loyal Caversham Lodge was hold at Forbury Corner Hall, N.G. Bro. Gilliand over a very large attendance. Prov. G.M. Bro. A. Wylie and D.P.G.M. Bro. G. Clark were in attendance. Th© officers were elected as follows: —N.G., Bro. J. Lunam ; V.G., Bro. M‘Donald G. Sec., Bro. Grant; Warden, Bro. Jackson; Guardian, Bro. Wright The Prov. G.M., assisted by several brethren, conducted the installation ceremony, addressing tho officers in their respective duties, and counselling close attention to their work. A discussion took place on the proposal to form a ladies’ branch, several brethren speaking on either side. It was decided further to adjourn the discussion for four weeks. Responses to the second toast wore made by the Loyal Centenary, Valley, and Albion Lodges. Tho Loyal Milton Lodge meeting was well attended, N.G. Bro. G. B. Scott presiding. A review of the work done at tho recent competitions led to tho conclusion that the lodge .although unsuccessful, had derived considerable benefit Jby tho preparation work and from the criticism of the iudgo. It was decided to hold the annual ball at the latter end of August, and a strong committee waa formed. Th© election of officers, in which much interest was shown, and for which positions several ballots wore taken, resulted as follows:—N.G., Bro. R. H. F. Baird; Y.G., Bro. G. P. .McGregor; G. Sec., Bro. D. B. Lockhart; Warden, Bro. W .H. M"Lean; Guardian, Bro. D. R. Cockrell ; G.M., Bro. G. B. Scott. Tho installation was hold over till next lodge night, when the Prov. G.M. will bo in attendance.

Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge was well attended at their half-yearly summoned meeting. One candidate was initiated to tho order. The officers elected were: N.G.. Bro. F. Clark: V.G., Bro. W. 11. Liddicut; G. Seq.. Bro. H. M‘L«in; Warden, Bro. A. Poyntz; Guardian, Bro. Bertonahaw; G.M, Bro. Cunningham. D.P.G.M. Clark conducted the installation ceremony, congratulating tho newly-elected officers, who, he stated, were all young and energetic. A pleasing and unusual feature was the introduction of N.G. Bro. F. Clark by his grandfather, P.P.G.M. Bro. G. S. Clark, who briefly expressed tho pride he felt in having his son as D.P.G.M and of new being privileged rto install his grandson ns chief officer ot his lodge. Those present heartily approved of tho sentiment, and hearty cheers were accorded tho Clark family for their devotion to tho lodge. The lodge decided to enter for the district shield competition. Responses to tho visitors’ toast were made by Loyal Centenary, Valley, Caversham, and Albion. D.P.G.M. Bro. Clark and P.P.G. Bro. Rosovoaro responded on behalf of the executive.

The last meeting of Loyal Prince of Wales. Port Chalmers, was presided over by N.G. JBro. G. Allan. Four candidates were initiated and two proposed. Tho officers elected were:—N.G., Bro. F. G. Macdonald; Y.G., Bro. J. B. Brown; G. Sec., Bro. E. Brown; Warden, Bro. A. Verrall; Guardian, Bro. J. Fitzgerald; P.P.G.M., Bro. J. Crawford; Per. Sec., Bro. Johnstone. P.G, Bro. Thom and P.G. Bro. W. Campbell acted as installing officers. A discussion took place on the subject of hospital benefits. It was resolved to ask tne District Executive if the proposals had their approval. An official visit to Loyal Palmerston Lodge was arranged for a date in July. P.P.G.MBro. Crawford entertained the members with* some interesting, reminiscences of his past experiences in the order. Presentations of P.G. diplomas were made to P.G. Bro. C. Macdonald and to P.G. Bro, D. dark, as representing , his brother, who is on his way to Germany to give evidence at the Swaboda murder trial. The lodge expressed its interest in the latter brother’s welfare, and expressed hopes for his safe, speedy return. The Loyal Centenary Lodge’s meeting at Forbury Road Gymnasium was an animated one, due to an official visit from all lodges, the attendance numbering 90. Hand and Heart being particularly well represented. The Prov. G.M. presented P.G. Bro. Rose with the district medal won for proposing 25 members. Tho recipient was heartily applauded. V musical programme was contributed tp by the following:—Piano. Bro. L. Burk; instrumental items, Bros. Wooley, Kennedy. and Scott. recitation Bro. XI. Bond- song, P.G. Bro. W. Rosevear. The Prov. G.M., Bro. A. Wylie, D.P.G.M Bro. G. Clarke, and P.P.G.M. Bro. Rosovear responded on behalf of the executive, tho last-named pointing out that the Progress of late had been very marked both numerically and financially. P.G. Russell (Oavorsham) gave an interesting account of tho progress of the juvenile movement in his district. Responses to the visitors’ least were made by several lodges.
