IN SEARCH OF IDEAS.
CHINESE DEPUTATION STUDYING WESTERN AFFAIRS. With, a view to finding out how we get things done in England, General Hsu, who is on a world tour for the Chinese Government, has arrived with a number of colleagues in London from Paris (states the Daily Chronicle). The little band consists of economists, philosophers, and soldiers. They are staying in Montague square, and will ho in England for a month only. They have already made a tour of .the Continent, and are to go to America and Japan to study the conditions in those countries. General Hsu, a kindly and courteous man, who wore a khaki military uniform, said in an interview that he had been sent by Marshal Tuan Chijui, head of the Chinese Government, to study the political, economic, and military affairs in countries abroad and to present a report. They had, he said, formed a' favourable impression of Europe. As a military man, he wdll see the British army and navy, ho continued, and is to visit the military depot at Aldershot. On the following day he goes to Halton, Wendover. the training depot for air mechanics in the Royal Air Force. He hoped to see as much as possible of Britain's great industries, particularly the iron and weaving industries. "I am of the opinion,” ho added, “that the result of our studies in England will bo most beneficial to the future welfare of China.”
