CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

The following are the principal clauses in the reports to bo presented to the City Council on Wednesday night: The Electric Power and Lighting Committee recommends that the tender of Mr VV, G. Wallace for the construction of additions to the Halfway Lush substation for the housing of the now synchronous condenser bo accepted.

The Reserves Committee recommends that authority bo granted to lot to any person or firm who may apply the privilege of removing sand from Chisholm Park, upon payment of a fee of £lO, such payment to cover the right of removal for a period of 12 months only. The Library Committee reports that certain donations have been acknowledged with thanks. Special mention might, perhaps; be made of two troopship publications received from Mr Olutha MacKenzie. Ho explains that when these two numbers were being printed a German airship passing over London bombed the printing office, and the magazines were destroyed. Only a few survived, and are now very rare. The library now possesses a total of 99 magazines issued by ships sailing from New Zealand. The quotation of Messrs M’Gill and Sons for constructing concrete wail and Jarrah fencing at tho roar of tho library building for the sum of £44 has been accepted. Thu. adjoining owner is to contribute £8 10s towards tho cost of tho fence.

Tho General Committee recommends that notice be served on the owner of premises in Good ail street, Caversham, calling upon him, to effect certain repairs, alterations, or works within a period of four weeks from date of notice. The committee reports that tho under-mentioned applications for licenses have been granted ;—Bakehouses 9, butcher’s shops 3, milk shop 1, ice cream shop 1, eating house 1, second-hand dealer’s license 1. One, application for an express driver’s license has been declined after consideration of reports as to the fitness of tho applicant to hold such a license. The committee also reports that (ho arrangement already arrived at with the Defence Department for an exchange of land adjoining Logan Pari: has been slightly modified in so far as tho area to bo exchanged is concerned. The alteration is very small and of no particular importance. It has further been agreed with the Defence Department that the department is to bear tho cost of legal and survey expenses, estimated at £ls, and that the council is to erect the necessary fences, estimated to cost £2O.
