Mr Lord, accompanied by his wife and daughter, met an affable stranger in Honolulu, who joined their party, travelling with them to San Francisco and then to Vancouver. There he introduced a friend, who proposed a method to beat the Vancouver Stock Exchange. The result was that Mr Lord lost £SOOO when that deal went wrong, but, having no suspicions, cabled for an additional £IO,OOO from Adelaide. This, too, he lost.
