ROBBERY AT ST. PETER’S

Three of the thieves were discovered among the workmen repairing the Treasury. They refused to disclose where the plunder was hidden, but a detective, pretending to bo a buyer, -got in touch with a shoemaker who was suspected, cl being a receiver, and the latter revealed the haul; whereupon the police broke in and seized the chalices, which were minus their gems. Peter’s, and stole a quantity of valuables, which were stated to include the ring of St. Peter, which contains a colossal emerald of incalculable money value.
