WORLD’S FAIR.

IN AID OF Y.W.C.A. FUNDS. Tho Young Women’s Christian Association of Now Zealand is responsible for raising its share of the funds necessary for maintaining Ibo association’s world-wide work. Tho New Zealand section is particularly interested in tho association’s enterprises in China and Japan, and to help this work each branch makes an annual contribution. Tho workers and friends of tli© Y.W.C.A. here have for some time past been preparing for a world fair, by moans of which it is intended to raise their quota of tho funds necessary for the wider work. Tho fair, which was held in tho association’s recreation hall, was opened yesterday afternoon by tho Mayor, Mr H. L. Taploy, in the presence of a largo gathering. The hall, with its various stalls and decorations and novelty attractions, was made to look very pretty, and the dainty national costumes" worn by many of the stallholders contributed not a little to the brightness of the scone. Tho Mayor, in declaring the fair open, took occasion to express his appreciation of the work the Y.W.C.A. is planning to do for women and girls about Exhibition time. He wished them all tho success they could possibly desire, and expressed the hope that tho amount produced by the fair would exceed their oxjioctationa. Anything he could do to help forward tho interests of such a worthy organisation as tho Y.W.C.A. would bo very willingly done. The stalls and stallholders were as follows Market stall, Y.W.C.A. board of directors (Mrs Wilkinson in charge); workstall. Mrs Ross (president); needlework stall hostel girls; flower stall Mrs Mackie Begg; kitchen stall, Kismet Club members; handkerchief stall. Pioneer Club members: miscellaneous stall, extension department representatives; jumble, cake, sweets, fancy goods, baby clothes, and soft drink stalls, girl citizens; white elephant, children’s garments, lucky dip, and side shows, Te Tatimato Club;' afternoon lea, Cafeteria Committee members. The sale was parried on briskly throughout the afternoon and evening, and in the evening rnnsio 'was contributed by the Albion Jazz Orchestra.
