KAWARAU MINING CLAIMS.

A LEAGUE FORMED. / A ■well-attended meeting of claim-holders and representatives of companies holding claims on the Kawarau River was held in Messrs W. E. C. Reid and Co.’s Board Room last evening. Mr J. H. Wilson, who occupied the chair, stated that the meeting had been called by Mr J. L. Stewart Wright, or Cromwell, so that he might- have an opportunity of explaining the objects of the proposed league and supplying any information regarding the sphere of its activities.

Mr Wright addressed the meeting, giving an outline of the objects of the league, and stressing the need for the co-operation of all claim-holders. Such a league would provide means for combined action when and whore desirable or necessary. Claim-holders wonld recognise the advantage which wonld accrue through unanimity of action. Mr Wright further stated that the Provisional Committee in Cromwell proposed convening a meeting of representatives of all claims at an early date to go into the whole matter and finally approve of the rules and constitution.

After some discussion, it was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr Thomson—- " That we, as claim-holders, approve of the formation of the proposed league; and, further, that the claim-holders present pledge their support to a preliminary meeting to be held in Cromwell in connection with the formation of the Kawarau Mining Claims League.”

Votes of thanks to tho chair and to Mr Wright concluded the meeting, after whicn an informal discussion of the whole scheme took place amongst those present.
